| This is an "ice dam". If your home looks likes this, then the roof of your home is not properly ventilated. |
| A good test to see if your roof is properly ventilated is to look at the gutters during the winter months. Ice dams are caused by the melting of ice or snow too quickly. If your roof and attic are not ventilated properly, the heat from inside your home, escapes through the roof to cause the ice and snow to melt. Gutters are meant to carry water away from your home. When the water and ice build up is excessive, it creates these ice dams. This can lead to water leaking back into your home and cause even more damage. |
